About the Quotemaster

Pablo Picasso: Pablo Ruiz Picasso, better known as Pablo Picasso, was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printer, ceramicist, and theatre designer who spent much of his adult life in France. He co-founded the Cubist movement, pioneered built sculpture, co-invented collage, and helped develop and explore a wide range of techniques, making him one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century. Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, a proto-Cubist piece, and Guernica, a dramatic depiction of the bombing of Guernica by German and Italian air forces during the Spanish Civil War, are two of his most famous works. Picasso was a gifted artist who painted in a naturalistic style during his childhood and teens. During the first decade of the twentieth century, he experimented with many theories, techniques, and concepts, and his style evolved. After 1906, Picasso was inspired by Henri Matisse's Fauvist work to experiment with more radical techniques, resulting in a fruitful rivalry between the two artists, who were later frequently associated by critics as the leaders of modern art.
