Helen Frankenthaler: Helen Frankenthaler was an abstract expressionist painter from the United States. She made a significant contribution to the history of American painting after WWII. In the early 1950s, Frankenthaler began showing her large-scale abstract expressionist paintings in contemporary museums and galleries. She was part of the Clement Greenberg-curated Post-Painterly Abstraction exhibition in 1964, which launched a new school of abstract painting known as colour field. Her work has been displayed globally since the 1950s and has been the subject of several retrospective exhibits, including one in 1989 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
